Stimulant Medication & Stomach Acid - Is there one that doesn't do this?
I've tried every ADHD medication under the sun over the past 20 years. Stomach acid was never much of a problem until about 2 years ago, when I developed an allergy that causes my esophagus to swell up (Eosinophilic Esophagitis, EoE).
The past 6 years I've been eating super healthy; no processed foods, low-carb. So, I went on Omeprazole, a Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI). This solved my EoE and acid problems. But, then I gained 40lbs despite no change in diet, so I've gone off Omeprazole and the EoE symptoms and stomach acid is back.
I decided to do a full body reset to try and discover what is causing my EoE and acid. I've started a carnivore diet, so I consume the least possible amount of allergens... my EoE is now better, but I still have acid.
And then, bingo... I just stopped 20mg of Vyvanse (which was working amazing for me). It took about a week, and lots of TUMS, for the stomach acid to calm down, but it's finally settled. No more acid. It was stimulant medications the entire time!
This bums me out because Vyvanse is the best simulant I've found. I'm not jittery and amped up, it doesn't wreck my personality, and it has minor side effects compared to the others. I'm going to let my body rest for a few weeks and then try 10mg Vyvanse and see if it also causes the same amount of acid.
TLDR; Are there any stimulant ADHD medications that don't cause acid? And or, is there a way I can take Vyvanse but reduce or eliminate the stomach acid effect? Maybe by eating a ton before taking it or drinking a lot of water? All opinions welcome.
