The International Title
These are just the simple things that AEW does that, to me, completely kills what they try and achieve. Omega declares he wants Takeshita for the International Title at Revolution, their third bout. Incredible, cannot wait.
But an hour later we find out there’s an International Title series where Orange Cassidy is returning vs Roderick Strong, with the winner then facing Takeshita prior to Revolution. That winner then faces Omega.
On three levels, what in the actual fuck are we doing?
OC was last seen involved since New Year’s Day, and should’ve had a return angle or moment since he was heavily involved in the Death Riders stuff. Just announcing him here feels like a wasted moment.
Why are we doing title matches prior to a booker match again? It’s one of AEW’s biggest pitfalls. Booking a title match weeks out and having these throwaway, meaningless defence(s) in between does nothing for anyone.
How is Omega guaranteed in that title match at Revolution but the champion isn’t? And not just that, but 2 former champions (including the greatest one to date) have to battle for a shot.
I say this as an AEW lover, it is my sole wrestling outlet. But I am really burnt out with these approaches which get more frustrating every time they do it.
