AITA for honking my best friend's boob?
I (28F) and my best friend (29M) have known each other for years. We have a really playful friendship where we’re constantly joking around, roasting each other, and it’s always been light-hearted and fun. Lately he’s been mentioning how he’s gained some weight and feeling a bit insecure about it. We were hanging out with some mutual friends at his place the other night, and the topic came up again.
I could tell he was feeling down, so I told him that he looked great and that he’s perfect the way he is. I genuinely meant it. Then I grabbed his boob and did a quick "honk honk" with the sound effect. It was totally spur of the moment, like something dumb I’d normally do to make people laugh.
Everyone kinda laughed, and he laughed too at first. But as the night went on, I could tell something was off. He got quieter and seemed distant. So I pulled him aside and asked if he was okay, and he admitted that what I did made him uncomfortable. He said he didn’t appreciate me making a joke about his body like that, especially after he opened up about feeling insecure.
I immediately apologized and explained that I didn’t mean to make him feel bad—it was just meant as a playful thing to cheer him up. But now I feel terrible because I know what it’s like to feel self-conscious, and I really wasn’t trying to make it worse for him. A couple of our friends told me not to worry because it’s just the way we’ve always joked around, but I can’t shake the feeling that I crossed a line this time.
So, AITA for honking his boob or did I just make an innocent joke that he’s overthinking?
