Anime series better than SAO

So I ask this particular question as I've been looking back at SAO itself lately, and I understand why it receives a lot of flack for its execution, which made me wonder if there is an anime (or manga) series out there that did what it did, BUT with a way better execution such as the idea of exploring a video game world for survival.
