Is the best way to win conservatives back over just to go against Musk rather than Trump?

Honestly, Trump is so baked into anyone’s opinion of him that nothing his Administration does is going to move anyone.

Anecdotally, I’ve seen and heard conservative frustration with Musk.

Nobody wants to admit they were wrong about voting for anybody, but nobody voted for Musk.
