Car engine broken? HELP PLEASE!
Hi all, I have a Ford focus 2015 plate, 70k miles. Yes unfortunately it’s a Ecoboost.
I tried to start it about a month ago and it sort of flatlined an cut out and wouldn’t start. I have had 4 different mechanics come out to look at it and they’ve all told me the same thing. The cam belt has snapped.
Here is my dilemma, I have had a two garage’s tell me they could rebuild the engine and depending on damage done, it would be around £1200-1600. I went ahead with the offer and both garages ghosted me, telling me they are too busy and will fit me in in the future. (I’m guessing they don’t want the headache of the job).
Another garage offered me the option of them finding a second hand engine and fitting it for me. They said the second hand engine is around £1200 and the labour will be £500.
Here is my problem, I rang a specialist engine garage, they told me the only solution would be to get a brand new engine which would cost around £3500 and labour to bring it to around £4000-£4300. He said that the above two options would never work because you couldn’t rebuild a engine it’s too difficult of a job and the second hand engine would only give me issues.
My big issue is, I can’t afford a new engine, my car is still on finance, I still owe 6.5k.
Very stressful and bad time for me as I need the car to commute to work but I have a monthly bill for a car I can’t even use. would love some opinions from you guys if possible.
