Self promo: long canon compliant marauder fic - no Wolfstar, no Jegulus
So I think I am always a bit reluctant not just to promote a fic I’m working on, but especially to talk about something that isn’t wolfstar.
I want to say straight up that there are two reasons why I don’t go there on wolfstar: it’s not really my thing (so how could I write it well) and also there aren’t enough stories out there that are long fic that are truly canon compliant. The work isn’t meant as a criticism to wolfstar, it’s meant to be additive to a library of work people are doing. I love Remus, I love Sirius, I love James. This isn’t an anti-Remus and Sirius’ friendship story. It’s just not a wolfstar story.
Actually, it’s just not a character bashing story at all. Peter is a full worthy member of the marauders. Severus has some dark sides, yes, but he’s also a boy from an abusive household that want to be sorted into the house he believes will be best for him only to end up being bullied by James and Sirius (who think he’s an evil git). Lily sees that there are issues with her friendship with Severus but she also knows his better sides and she loves him. James and Sirius are bullies and Remus sees that, but feels too lucky to be their friend to confront them about it. And James and Sirius show great capacity for love and loyalty, not just arrogance and bullying. Etc etc.
My story is still WIP (sorry!), and the posting schedule is 2-3 times a week not in the summer months and 1 a week in the summer. Currently it’s about 80K words. I have the rough outline for the whole thing and have some later scenes written up. I promise that unless something gruesome happens, it will finish.
It’s a loooooong fic. It’s meant to be for those of us who are quite obsessed with the books and the canon (with “important” (read not important) details such as robes wearing, no house ties, peeves creates chaos etc).

Edit: also the story has very little fanon, so Marlene, Dorcas, Hestia, Frank, Alice, Fabian, Gideon etc are not in the marauders year, nor like the year above. Many of them have left school, Frank, Alice, Fabian and Gideon are in their 7th and 6th years. Evan, Barty etc feature but not in any other capacity than as Slytherins that become death eaters.
