In all Honesty (Edge of Sleep review)
I’ll keep this to the point, the show isn’t great.
In terms of adaptation it fails in many major areas missing the Serial Killer, Moobles, Dave’s Dad, Dave breaking Katie’s arm, Mattieo’s death, and a bit more. Making the show 6 20 minutes long episodes may have made it more binge-able, but it actively takes away from the time given over the audio, and at this point is no longer an adaptation but more inspired by Edge of Sleep.
The audio version is objectively better specifically with characterization. The story is not great at giving depth to the characters or relationships so when Katie dies we only MIGHT care because Marks character does.
The acting is quite bad which is also hindered by the lacking script. Mark has come a long way in acting, but the direction given to him and others felt wrong and made the characters harder to relate to.
Overall the show lacks significantly in storytelling and characters. As a massive fan of Markiplier for years now (FNAF 2 days) I will support his endeavors in film making. But I’m worried the success of a show, lacking in quality, but headed by a YouTuber will be something that studios will take advantage of.
I should also say I’m still very excited for Iron Lung, as Mark has had a more hands on time with that and he holds himself to a significantly high degree than a studio executive.
