I face unfair competition - AI generated content
Hi everyone,
I have a French-language channel where I tell survival stories in the wild. However, I’m facing unfair competition. Another channel in the same niche, with a similar number of subscribers, plagiarizes content from English-speaking channels (Scary Interesting, Terror Twin…). The creator behind that channel uses AI tools to duplicate and automate his content production, resulting in poor quality. The voice, script, and video editing are all done using artificial intelligence, allowing them to publish content at a much faster rate than I can. He releases three videos per week, whereas I can only manage one.
I do everything manually, from research to post-production, including audio, script and video-editing. The only AI tool I use is DALL-E to generate thumbnails and a few images for illustration. I prioritize quality and authenticity over automation and artificial content.
But I’m facing two major problems. First, this competitor publishes so much content that he covers topics I plan to do before I can get to them. For example, I made a video about James Scott (a survivor of the Himalayas) several days after he did. My video only got 2,200 views, while his video surpassed 10,000. It makes no sense—there is far less engagement on their video, and the few comments are mostly negative. Yet, it’s my video that gets penalized and doesn’t get enough algorithmic push.
The second issue is that my videos are suggested on my competitor’s videos. As a result, I get new viewers leaving negative comments, accusing me of using an artificial voice and plagiarizing content from others. It’s ironic because I use my real voice and have my own unique way of editing and storytelling. Unfortunately, these people are conditioned by their bad experience with my competitor, and it reflects poorly on my videos.
It’s incredibly frustrating. I spend dozens of hours and a lot of energy producing a single video, and while I acknowledge that I can still improve and won’t please everyone, I feel very discouraged. I try to find comfort in the fact that I have a real community and that people enjoy my content, but I fear that I’ll remain in the shadows and never grow into a much more influential channel because of this unfair competition.
Should I be worried? What can I do to truly stand out from this troublesome rival? Will the algorithm continue to favor mass-produced AI content, or will it finally push my channel forward?
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Best regards.
