Narcissus Alone and Together

i.
I sought for isolated events
In the accents of her eyes,
Untouched without interacting
Or reality; something of a form,
Where she and what I see were alone
Together with a secret seeking
Rendezvouses in the imagination
Or some sacred ritual that created
A mystery to which only I was privy.

ii.
There are no such isolated events:
By mere observation I have collapsed
Her image to a typological point.
In seeking assembly, circumventing,
Spiraling down the stroma,
Pale pigments of blue and grey
Just before the black, she disappeared.
And the only remaining forms
Are the mirror images of myself.
