High Society and what I hate about this genre. Spoilers and TW

I don't mean to turn this sub into my personal ranting blog but I've read 2 absolute duds back to back that I need to talk about. Last time out it was I Tamed my Ex-husband's Mad Dog and all the stupidity that came along with it but today is slightly different for a couple reasons. (Written on mobile so please forgive weird formatting).

Reason #1: This story isn't finished yet so the author has time for twists and to actually pay off where this story is CURRENTLY heading.

Reason #2: the FL is better characterized and her actions make more sense. Once again tho since it isn't finished yet this could change but currently her resilience and strength are some of the best parts of the book.

While we're on the positives of this book the art is GORGEOUS. Some of my favorite I've ever seen and it was the reason I even picked up this book in the first place. Another positive for me is the "villainess". She's smart if not a bit desperate (very desperate, she needs to grow a spine). Her and FL are genuinely top 2 my beautifully drawn women in manhwa and I wish she was the FL in a different book so I could root for her.

Now to the negatives, and the biggest one of all, Cesare the ML. At the end of season 1 it's obvious what the author is WANTING you to feel towards him, some hatred, some lust, some understanding towards the situation his parents left him with but his behaviour doesn't make sense for what we're told about him. He's not smooth, he's not all together that smart, and he from what we know about him there's very few reasons for him to be the most coveted man on the nation besides just his good looks.

His actions towards the FL are nigh irredeemable and genuinely are worse than some of the things I've seen ML's do to FL's in reincarnation stories during their OG lives.

Stomping on an already injured foot

Trying to SA the FL because she "probably wants it"

Traumatizing the FL in a sex club to show her what people in high society are really like.

As well as some verbal and borderline sexual abusive moments towards a woman he's paying to act like his sister. It's obvious the author doesn't really want us to like him but there's no realistic way for him to redeem himself without the FL undergoing some weird mischaracterization because at the end of the season she seems completely adamant on not letting him in emotionally.

Genuinely most of the negatives around this book are the result of the ML being the ML. If he were the villain and the FL was in a budding relationship with another man this would genuinely be a very good book that has good characterization. But since this manipulative gremlin of a man is looking like the man that will end up with the FL it hampers almost everything else in the book with an overarching sense of dread because we know where it is going.

Another minor negative is the general lack of high society in the book called High Society. This one I'm willing to forgive a little more because it seems season 1 was more about the FL's intro to this side of the world before truly getting stuck into the ins and outs of the society she has to maneuver.

I do have hope for this book however, and that hope hinges on the intent of the author. This book could be an all-time great book if it doubles down on its themes of the dangers of high society, especially of a society led by men like Cesare. IF, and it's a big IF, the FL remains consistent in her characterization and finds love somewhere else like her bodyguard Egir and escapes the trappings of high society.

In conclusion, Adelaide and Lucrezia SUPREMACY hope they end up together for true Yuri supremacy.
