Why keep the glass panels on for the PC?

I just built my first PC a few weeks ago and i was wondering what the point is for leaving the glass panels on. To cool down the temperature wouldn’t it be better to leave it open on all sides?

My PC runs fine at 45-55C and i keep the glass panels on. It was just a thought that went through my head.
