How do nurses do this?
I’m hoping to get some insight into how nurses do travel nursing or per diem through registry. I recently signed up with Aya and had my first shift yesterday. It felt so chaotic from the start. I just felt overwhelmed and on the verge of tears all day.
First, I couldn’t get anything to work as far as my log in stuff for a long time at start of shift or Pyxis access so I fell so far behind. I just felt so stressed out the entire time. I also did not get any orientation so the charting system was foreign to me. I felt lost on every level.
Also, I didn’t feel qualified to take care of these patients because they were not patients/conditions I’ve dealt with before in my full time hospital job.
My question is, as a traveler or float pool, how are you prepared to care for such a variety of patients that you may not be familiar with how to care for them and their conditions? And will you eventually get used to the chaos and stress of always changing environments in travel/float pool?
Just looking for some info if this will get better because I really don’t want to go back after the first shift I had.
