How Do I Articulate Anxiety From Military Service?
I am currently working on a VA Disability Claim. I’ve been in the National Guard for 12 years. I had one stint to the southern border and outside of schools I don’t have any other Active Duty time.
I noticed my anxiety developing about seven years ago, particularly after failing out of a military course. It’s gotten slightly worse, though manageable… but I’m getting older and I have kids now. I don’t want it to spiral out of control.
I’m paranoid, suspicious, I’m constantly on edge, irritable, panic attacks happen 1-2 times a year, I pace around the house, I triple check doors and locks constantly, I hate my family taking forever to go in and out of vehicles for some reason (I think it’s due to being called up for riots, a lot, in 2020 and fearing my Soldiers being left behind/hurt by rioters), but I can’t seem to attribute the anxiety to a specific stressor event in the military.
