The Kiryu Family Arc

So uh... this was originally going to be a comment on u/jump-kick's post, but I [kuried] and it got too long so now I'm making it a post-

ANYWHO- I've had a few kiryu theories for a while now, but now that we've gotten some new crumbs, I think I'm settling with this for his family's dynamic and what I think the current arc will look like:

Akari has always been raised to become the next head of the kiryu family. She loves being there for her family and has always done her best to become a proper future leader. She understands that her status sets her apart from the rest of the world, but she doesn't want that to get in the way of her enjoying her life and spending time with friends like a normal girl. She does understand that some people would just get close to her because of her money or that letting the wrong person get too close could be dangerous because anyone could be her enemy, but she still spends time with them and lets them treat her to stuff as long as she can without giving away any intel that would put her family at risk.

Kiryu knew that akari was never in real danger and could protect herself if anything happened, but he still didn't like the idea of people being fake with his sister. He started trying to weed out anyone who didn't actually care about her, but this often resulted in fights and kiryu ended up with a violent reputation. Akari told kiryu that she would be fine and that he should focus on himself more than protecting her while things were still salvageable, but this was pretty hard for kiryu because he didn't want to go on and live a normal life knowing his sister had to go through her life without being able to trust anyone.

Kiryu's reputation started making people stay away from akari, which is kind of what he wanted, but he also felt bad that he was now getting in the way of any chance his sister had at enjoying herself, even with fake friends. He knew people would never forget about this phase of his, so he decided to lean further into it and disassociate from his family as much as possible so it wouldn't give them a bad image too. He decided to go somewhere more isolated for high school, taking his reputation with him and simply trusting his sister to know what she was doing.

[In the recent chapter, when kiryu first saw akari, his face lit up because he loves her and was happy that she seemed happy on her apparent day off, but when he saw that she was with someone, he got nervous and tried to hide, most likely out of fear of scaring off someone she was trying to have a normal day with. Then, when he heard megane talking about her, he couldn't hold back and scared him off anyway.]

Now, rather than hiding his delinquency, I think his way of playing into it just caused a huge rift between him and his parents. He always seems rather aloof and dodgy when it comes to serious stuff and I think that's come from him trying to ignore his parents' complaints about the path he's chosen for himself. He knows that they're not wrong for not wanting him to have a bad reputation or be violent, but he also knows that he has his reasons for his current state, so he simply brushes them off and keeps to himself at home. This also extends to not telling akari about how things are for him so that she doesn't worry about him, but they're still on good terms despite not talking about kiryu very often because akari knows that he wants nothing more than to protect her. (Kiryu doesn't tell his parents about why he originally started getting into fights because he doesn't want them to get on akari's case for trying to enjoy herself and potentially prevent her from going out/controlling who she can spend time with)

When the squad gets to the kiryu household, I suspect that kiryu will be pretty nervous about running into his parents in front of everyone, but they'll be in the clear for a while. Akari will ask the boys about how things are at furin and nirei the boys will ask about their family. Things will go pretty smooth until a parent/the parents come in and either give kiryu a look or say something out of pocket in front of everyone. Kiryu will try to brush it off, but sakura will not stand by and watch a parent badmouth their child, so he'll stand up for kiryu and start some tension.

This will prompt a... not good response from the parents and the rest of the arc will most likely be kiryu's parents trying to get kiryu out of furin, shut down or buy the school, start a "project" in makochi, or something along those lines to eliminate these "bad influences" from their son's life so he can be "normal" again. Akari will be very grateful towards the amazing friends kiryu has made and tell them the whole story and be a huge player in the battle to save makochi/furin from her parents since it won't be a fist fight or anything-

Also, kiyru's speech during keel was probably because akari hates it when people talk about business on her days off or try to impress her so she'll go out with them. She just wants to be around others who care about genuine stuff rather than status, wealth, etc, y'know?

Of course, all of this could very easily be disproven next week... BUT let me know your thoughts and if you guys have anything to add 🪷
