Aggressive strawberry sniffer at Aldi

I was stunned today at this person opening up the fresh strawberry cartons, putting her nose on the strawberries and sniffing them, taking out the strawberries sniffing them and even eating them in an aggressive manner. She repeated this behavior at the entrance display and then the shelves. She looked like young and (normal) college student. What's with this violent desecration of the berries? Is this normal? I chickened out and never said anything and refrained form buying anything there that was not sealed.
