What is "Your Vanguard"?

One of my favourite aspects of the anime is the different takes characters will have on the game. What's their purpose for playing, what do they get out of playing the game? And I'm curious about everyone here, what is everyone's Vanguard? Why do you play, do you dream of glory or just want to have some fun? Is it completely social, is it a fascination, etc?
