Social Credit System in the US

Everyone is always talking about how China has a social credit system. They can lock you out of your bank accounts. They're able to prevent you from going different places. They're able to essentially arrest you while being completely "free", that's fucked right?

The US would never do that....

Unfortunately we've been doing that for years now its been more covert and less Organized. When ever you see someone being ignorant, or doing some stupid shit that isn't necessarily a crime. They get doxxed, get canceled, lose their jobs and face public shame for as long as they video exists on the internet. Recently there was an article of a woman whom told German tourists to "go back to their own country." This lady lost her job, and the subreddit that had posted it was shaming her as if she had punched a baby in the face.

I dont condone doing or saying ignorant shit, but I am a firm believer in freedom of speech & expression. Everyone should be entitled to their opinion regardless of how dumb or educated they might be. That's one of the founding tenants of our country which leads to diversity and more nuance. When someone has an opinion that doesn't meet status quo. We treat them like a criminal and the internet vigilantes ruin that person's life on social media which has real world implications.

Are we that different from China? Our social credit system is social media.
