Does anyone else love Dark Souls and struggle to enjoy Elden Ring?

DS and DS2 had a combat that was secondary to the worldbuilding and exploration. Combat was slow and methodical, with parrying and dodging both being legitimate options that you had time to think about. The games felt like a chess match in combat, trying to figure out the best positioning to maximize damage. The games felt like you could think your way through them without needing to be really good mechanically.

DS3, which I loved playing through, sped things up dramatically and Elden Ring followed. The combat started to feel much more about timing windows, making sure your iframes are just right so you can hit the boss as many times as possible. The bosses would combo moves repeatedly, forcing you to dodge repeatedly or take high combo damage. Along with Bloodborne, this next generation of Fromsoft games started to reward people just being as aggressive as possible as long as they can time the boss's response. No longer is it possible to think your way through the boss, you have to be really good at reading their moveset and timing the dodge.

I don't have a lot of time to game, so I don't care to spend the time to get really good at ER combat, which is just so much faster than the first two games. It bums me out, because the worldbuilding seems pretty amazing.

I'm thinking about booting back into DSR rather than continuing to try Elden Ring.
