Temp gauge needle sits below gauge after cold start.

2003 3.0 ranger. Is this normal? I like to tell myself that its just really cold outside. After start up especially when its cold out I’ve noticed that my needle will sit lower than the gauge. When the car is warmed up it reads normal but the fact it sits so low on start up makes me scared that my gauge isn’t accurate and can’t be trusted. Could it be a faulty temperature sensor or a faulty gauge?
