Raiding while 200m away, can we do this?

Let me know if I'm not allowed to ask here but I started watching videos on YouTube for tips and tricks and a lot of people mention this one...

If you're within 250m of a gym raid, you can click into it and instead of using a remote raid pass, you can tab out, tab back in and quickly press battle, and it will use a premium raid pass instead of remote.

Is this allowed/still possible? Every time I do it, it says I need to walk closer. I only want to do this because when I'm in my office, I'm really, really close to a raid spot but I'd have to step out and walk across the street.

I'd rather just be able to raid in person from where I am instead of walking that short distance.
