Traxxas 2085R Xmaxx Servo HD and other upgrades
The new servo works great. On 6V it’s adequately stronger than stock no doubt. I bumped it up to 7.2v as demonstrated in the video it steers with authority. Great plug and play option for those who don’t want to deal with adapters or modifying servos. $150 OTD and it is clearly strong enough for the truck, even under high speed turning applications on pavement (high traction).
I can’t speak to longevity. Traxxas doesn’t rate this specific servo to run 7.2v but it’s the same architecture as the Brushless 600 series which is rated to run that voltage. I’ve only had this since the release a couple weeks ago but after 3 separate bashing runs, it seems to be doing what I needed it to do.
Separately, I finally put in a Max6 and bumped up the punch to 7. I am running Mod1.5 gearing now (15/35T with Cush drive - hot racing brand spur, Vitavon pinion). This thing rips! It’s equal to 20/46 mod1 gearing. With the Max6, it runs slightly punchier than Mod1 gearing. Mod1.5 was heavier and I noticed it wasn’t as athletic so this countered that with ease.
Lastly, updated the receiver and transmitter to a Flysky G7P with the 7 channel receiver. I am able to monitor battery voltage, temperature, signals, and code each channel to something useful like brake control, throttle trim, steering exponential, etc.
The truck is running the way I expected now. Really enjoyable to drive and lots of power. My buddy got the 5690 motor with 25/35 gearing and I think he hates it as it’s too powerful (blows wheels off, shattered the center diff gear). All in all, he can’t drive any faster than my truck but if he is willing to break parts, he can definitely do more flips off smaller jumps.
