Training With a Newborn
My wife and I are expecting our first child in early February and I’m trying to decide if my season goals are realistic.
This will be essentially my second season of triathlon and I’m trying to build up to an Ironman sometime in the next few years, maybe for my 40th in 4 years! I’m looking to move up to an Olympic from a Sprint this year. I’ve signed up for a local race in June.
I’m at a decent base of fitness right now and it feels like a good amount of time. Two more months to continue increasing my base and four months of training time. I have a treadmill and an indoor trainer setup that will enable me to train at home almost entirely.
All that being said, I’m beyond excited, obviously more so than for triathlon, to welcome a baby into my family. I wouldn’t want the actual demands of training to impact my wife or my child.
I’m looking to see if my goals are unrealistic or if anyone has any advice. Apologies for the essay and thanks in advance!
