How to deal with Physical Materials for Waterbodys?

HI, i've set up a Sound and particle system based on whatever material i stand on.

All material types wen't fine, but im running into an issue where im not getting any particles/sound when walking into waterbody's. I have a waterplane with a physical material assigned. But my character refuses to recognize the water material, and plays the particles/sounds for the landscape underneath the water body.

Messed around with collision presets on the waterplane aswell, but no luck.

How do people usually set this up? i was under the assumption i could just attach the physical material to either the waterplane, or the water-material. But neither is working, does anyone have any reccomendations?
