On April 1st, 1974, a man hauled 70 tires up to the mouth of a dormant volcanoe in Alaska and set them alight. Seeing the smoke, the residents were afraid that the volcano was about to erupt and called the police. When they investigated, "APRIL FOOL" was spray-painted next to the tires.
